Living With My Donkeys Performances
Living With My Donkeys Performances

The picture above is of Blossom and her new baby, Ouzal. He is just 4 hours old there! Here's the link to a recording of the work, this one being by Eric On, (see below).
- "Special Recognition" Award Certificate, 5th Ise-Shima International Composition Competition, Japan, 2025 Link to Ise-Shima

- Dr. James Boldin, Professor of Music at the University of Louisiana Monroe, performed the Donkeys at the 2026 Tenth International Annual Music by Women Festival taking place on March 5-7 at the Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS, linked here. A YouTube recording of his fantastic performance is linked here @53:59. Unfortunately, he used a center-stage one speaker configuration, so the sound was not optimal, but you can hear his excellent interpretation. Thanks, James! That's really exciting to be included.

- The work was selected for performance at the Florida State University Festival of New Music, with horn performer extraordinaire Eric On performing, January 29-31, 2026. The link to his performrance is here. Thank you Eric!

- Honorable Mention for the Pauline Oliveros New Genre Prize by the International Alliance for Women in Music, year 2021
- Maddy Tarantelli, DMA, Assistant Professor Horn, University of Northern Iowa; selected movements were performed at the Iowa Mid-North Horn Workshop, University of Iowa, March 14, 2025
- Drew Phillips, DMA, Associate Professor, Liberty University, Faculty Recital, Feb. 25, 2025. His Live Feed shows his creativity in performing the entire work, complete with photographs shown on the front stage screen. We'll be working on getting a good performance audio--stay tuned. An interesting note, Drew performed the Low Version, which is rarely heard. He had other works on that program that were well worth listening to, particularly the first opening work, "Soundings" by James Naigus and Drew's own work, Songs of Joy (at 56:18).

- Tarre Nelson, Graduate Assistant, Florida State University, selectioned movements, April, 2024. Tarre also included the work in their graduate treatise, Unaccompanied Horn Repertoire by Underrepresented Composers.
- William Scharnberg, DMA, retired Regents Professor of Horn, University of North Texas and Principal Horn, Dallas Opera; Premiere Performance, 56th International Horn Symposium, July 31, 2024. Here's a link to his performance. The recording of his amazing performance was not great, so I'm currently re-mastering it by matching his performance with the original donkey track. So far I've just got his #1, #4, and #9 completed, but check back soon! His complete unmastered performance is Track #10. His #4, The Magpie Rides Along, is incredibly creative.
- Bill also performed the entire work at the 60th Red Lodge Music Festival, June 15, 2025 in Red Lodge, Montana. You can find the Red Lodge Music Festival program here (p7-8). He was able to have the photos from the score on a big screen behind him. Thanks, Bill!
- Lydia Van Dreel, DMA, Professor of Horn, University of Oregon, Faculty Recital, selected movements, March 3, 2024 A brief little clip of that performance can be seen here.

- Caitlin McCready is including the Donkeys in her doctoral dissertation on ElectroAcoustic Music for Horn and Natural Sounds, from Arizona State University. Good luck on that, Caitlin! If I had had access to contemporary music as a young horn player, particularly electronic music, I bet my future would have been vastly different. What a gift you're giving to horn players, and thank you for including me.
If any others of you out there in the horn-donkeyverse have performed the work, let me know! I'd be so happy to include you here.
